1991 TDR 250.

Just "taken" my water pump seal out.
Behind the seal that used to say "water Side" there is another seal.

Does any one know the Yamaha part number for this second seal ?
Looked on a fiche earlier and only saw the first seal.

Picture of the two seals are here:-

And where they used to live are here:-

The one on the left appears to be the remains of the bearing, there is only one seal. You didn't happen to find some small steel balls when you drained the coolant did you?

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Bearings.

What bearings ?

Just double checking diagrams and the floor.
Nope, there is/are no bearing(s) meant to be in there.

Sorry, not paying attention to the TDR bit. Surely there is supposed to be a bearing in there for the pump to turn in, as there is on a 350?

Don't know about the 350's.

The pump impeller shaft just appears to run on the seal(s).
I agree that it would make a lot of sense to have a small bearing there too. The diagrams I have only mention an oil seal and they only show 1 off.

It is quite a deep seal though and could easily contain bearings. I certainly didn't see any when I removed it though.

Any one with a TZR 250 (1988ish) have any ideas ?

Are you sure the other seal isn't from behind the autolube pump shaft?? I recently rebuilt my TDR engine and there was definately only one seal and no bearing!

Yep, quite sure.
I reckon that the water seal is actually made up of two parts. In the excitement to remove it I must have seperated the two halves.

Soon see when I get the replacement seal.

Thanks folks.

What's an RZ?
If it's the same as a 350lc seal then your probably right don. I just replaced mine and also thought it was two seals-I'd split the seal and the new one was fine.

I have the new seal now. It is a seal inside a seal. It's a very tight fit but it is in 2 parts. Difficult to see from these pictures though.

Ian,
.
Is the seal, shown in your pics (p/n 93103-10168), for a TDR250? My parts list states p/n 93103-10147. Is your seal an interchangeable seal from another Yamaha? If so, which one, please.
.
Best,
.
Don

I've only got the number from the 1988- TDR fiche and the seal you see in the pictures.

I did see a picture of a seal from another Yamaha the other day and it looked identical. I can't remember where I saw the other picture though.
Maybe one of the other forum users might be able to help. The seal from the TZR 3MA is the same.

Just been out and tested the seal in the hole with the pump shaft. Perfect fit.

** Just looked at a TZR parts book ( 1MA ? ?) anyway, the earlier one, that has 93103-10147 as the part number for the seal. **
