I was given a faulty electronic tacho, same as RZ 1986.
I pulled it apart, the blue resistor next to a diode looked like it had overheated and melted the solder.
I resoldered the resistor and the tacho works.

Is this a common fault with the tacho or does some other fault cause the overheated resistor problem?

I have another faulty tacho, the same resistor looks cooked and faulty.

Has anyone got a F2 or TZR 1987 tacho that is already apart?
I need to know ohm value of the (blue on this one) resistor near the zener diode No. ZD1 and the capacitor No. C7.

I think the resistor is used to protect the tacho circuit board from over voltage.

I have another good working tacho but I don't want to open it if I can avoid it.

I opened my good tacho to answer my own question.

The F2 tacho that was not working, had a cooked blue resistor near diode ZD1, I replaced the faulty resistor with a new 39 ohm resistor, tacho now works. Smile

You can work out the resistance of those by reading the colour coded bands.

No colour bands on this resitor it is all blue, between 1 & 5 watt.
If it is in good condition you can read number 39 on it, if the resistor is cooked and faulty the value cannot be read.
