News Update 13th March

At today’s DASC symposium, Dr Robert Pleming addressed the audience of display organisers and crews with an update on the project to bring Vulcan XH558 back on to the display circuit.

Funding has now been achieved for the next stage of work for further flight tests to begin. Effectively, the £150,000 mark has been reached but efforts must continue to raise £50,000 a month for the next four months.

In another development, it was revealed that 2Excel Aviation, the company behind the Blades display team, are now looking after the day to day negotiations and operations with display orgainsers on behalf of the Vulcan Operating Company.

Todays update. 06/05/2008

XH558 soared to the sky once more this afternoon, and touched down safely at RAF Coningsby in bright sunshine. She'll now be in bomber county for the rest of the week, performing what should be the last of her necessary testing before all of the paperwork can be submitted for CAA Permit to Fly approval.

The Delta Lady was waved off in the summer haze by another woman of distinction, Leicester's Lord-Lieutenant Lady Gretton. Both Justices of the Peace were in fine voice as Lady Gretton vocalised her approval for the Vulcan's familiar howl.

The combination of the sun's warmth and the knowledge that when she returns home her testing will be complete filled everyone on the airfield with hope that both the Permit to Fly and the air show season will be with us soon - a sentiment I'm sure you all share.

Cool

The Vulcan bomber is one of my favourite memories as a kid - It was the highlight of going to RAF Church Fenton.

This plane musn't be allowed to be no more than a memory.

Few days old but a bit more info for ya, Cool

MOMENTOUS ACHIEVEMENT FOR VULCAN! - 9th June 2008

Avro Vulcan XH558 achieved a major milestone in her goal to return to fly at public events in the coming year, when she successfully completed her final technical flight, landing in a blaze of glory at Bruntingthorpe Airfield, at the end of her comprehensive testing programme. This is the culmination of 15 years of dedicated work and commitment by the team at the Vulcan to the Sky Trust (VTST). All of the certification generated by the VTST engineering team, which runs into thousands of different forms and reports, will now be completed and collated by Marshall Aerospace and be presented to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for review and ultimately the granting of the all important Permit to Fly for the Vulcan.

Andrew Edmondson, Acting Chief Executive of the Vulcan to the Sky Trust said;

‘It is a great relief that XH558 has finally reached the end of her testing programme, which, rightly so, is a rigorous examination of all of the aircraft’s systems in line with the regulatory requirements of the CAA. It is a great tribute to all of the team here at Vulcan to the Sky that we have achieved so much and are now on the verge of returning this fabulous and much loved aviation icon to her public, where I am sure that she will be received and greeted like a long lost old friend’.

Andrew continued;

‘As you can imagine, the question that I am asked most is when will the Vulcan be appearing at an Airshow and the honest answer is that at the present time I am not able to say because I cannot give a definite timescale for when the Permit to Fly will be issued. However, as soon as this next important milestone in this amazing rollercoaster ride is achieved, we will ensure that this information is made available. Unfortunately, I also have to sound a note of caution in that although we have acquired funding to enable us to obtain the Permit, beyond that we will still need an injection of funds to allow us to ensure that XH558 is seen by as many members of the public as possible in the coming year, because after all she is the ‘people’s aircraft’. Vulcan to the Sky need to raise a minimum amount of £50,000 per month and are still currently seeking a Commercial Sponsor. The response and support that we have received from the public has been phenomenal and this is greatly appreciated by all of the team. It is hoped that they will continue to offer their much needed support and help to ensure that this unique and awesome example of British engineering at its best is able to thrill crowds for years to come,

To find out more information about commercial sponsorship please call Michael Trotter on 07803 141483.
