My Buell has a plastic fuell tank and i was thinking, can't someone make a plastic LC tank!!!!!
No rusting !!!!
You could have a few designs
maybe one design being broader at the front as the 4L0's do look a bit skinny and if you have a RGV transplant etc would beef the look up

I had a Triumph 5TA with a Dunstall Tank and Seat Unit, Fibreglass tank, split on me like an egg shell cracking open at 110 Mph (Bike had E3134 cams / 11:1 pistons etc ) and dropped a full tank of petrol all over my legs and the hot engine and I was lucky that I did not catch fire.

They were made illegal. I would not recommend an aftermarket glass/plastic tank.
So Buell use them and so do Triumph but they have passed all the safety standards including UK and USA which means they don't split open, especially in a crash. Perhaps they are layered/laminated with layers of Polythene bags or something within the plastic to contain the fuel if they hit the ground in a spill and the worst happens.

Looked under most cars these days?..................plastic, have been for years. Legally its the same here for road bikes, must be metal but its an old law made before plastic tanks were perfected - most likely it could change if/when manufacturers decide to push for it and that will come down to when its cheaper for them to make them that way. The reason glass tanks leak is the fuel attacks the resin which binds them together - plastic doesn't have that problem.

Plastic tanks are legal in the UK now. They changed the law a few years ago.
I have enquired to having some made, not a problem. But they would be different from original and these days no one wants anything unless it is NOS. So don't think many would sell.
Alloy Tanks is something we hope to do in the future, not for a while as too busy with what we have. But I do have someone here now who made alloy tanks for years around the world. So we have the skills, just need some more time.

Make me a plastic one,i don't mind if it's not NOS
As long as it looks good on the bike, that's what matters

I've seen covers for LC tanks, not sure if they're used in conjunction with a plastic tank underneath for racing or if they're designed to fit over the stock tank. Doesn't one of the FZR's have a cover Do they have plastic tanks underneath As Norbo says, the material used for tanks don't take paint very well, so using a cover's the way to go I'd have thought.
I've heard some pretty nasty horror stories about early attempts at fibreglass fuel tanks.
Tony, plassy tanks for PVs might be better

<<--- The FZR400 has a cover but it's the airbox which is under it (Well most of it)
The Tank is metal and sits behind the Carbs and the very back of the cover
As for the tank seat units that fit to the LCs they went over the Standard tank

Course, Twin spar. The tank cover I've seen wasn't part of a seat/tail/tank combo, just a tank cover. Probably fitted over the stock one. not sure why tho I had a Cagiva with a plastic tank and the thing was indestructable - you could kick it around the street all day and it still wouldn't split.
