Ok peeps some advice would be good...and yes I know I should see the doctor but I dont want to get ill visiting the place.
I suffer a bit with white finger when riding my bike and the finger next to my little finger on the right hand goes numb and white even after a short ride..carpal tunnel is the problem. This in itself is now becoming a bit of a problem with work let alone riding a bike but today another problem emerged.
My right thumb started becoming stiff at the joint and finally seized altogether. I couldnt move the thumb for about 2 maybe 3 hours and it was odd. Worse still I had to climb some lineplant and I couldnt do it so used our hoist instead...it simply wasnt safe.
It seems ok now but is very painful and now the left thumb is aching in much the same way.
Does anyone know what might be causing this...? I dont want to cause a fuss at work cos they normally sack people like that..!

Are your gloves to blame?
I ask because I used to get a dead thumb sometimes - it was because the stitching inside was on a nerve or something.

Nope, not gloves. I dont ride hardly anywhere now because the bike isnt yet sorted.
I dont wear gloves for my work other than for using gas and some dirty procedures.
I will call the doctor tomorrow to discuss it before making an appointment. Its bad again now..I think it might be alcohol related cos it seems to get worse after a session and the weekend was manic.
If that is the case Im buggered.
I wonder what the criteria is for carpal tunnel surgery...?

Don't do the surgery...it's hit and miss. Get some tests done and try wrist braces. I've been wearing them for over a year and it's helped me.

I don't know if you smoke tobacco, but I had this problem about twenty years ago. Cleared up when I gave up cigarettes.

Rang up the quack and explained the situation.
Soon wished I hadn't. Doc told me to quit drinking in November '99 cos I like a few with me curry...I never listened to him..
So..I told him alcohol makes it worse..or appears at least to aggrevate it.
I got a lecture about drinking and about not listening to advice etc etc..bah humbug..
Anyway..I have to go and get a blood test now BUT I recall a while back reading something about food colourings and additives causing a similar problem and I had eaten an almost fluorescent curry earlier so I reckon it might be the problem.
In addition, every time I eat curry..I drink beer..pattern here guys..!
Today its been dead painful.
Bugger.
