Depends on what they mean by "matching" - seen listings that say matching numbers but then you ask and it turns out they match the V5.................but not each other. You could call it mailboxing

That frame will match any engine, so is perfect for any rebuild.

When going for a MOT the tester looks for a visable frame number ?
Doesn`t he ? I have heard of fresh paint or powdercoating being disturbed to veiw such a number !
now if a frame is unstamped...how do you stand ?
If you can have it "restamped",who can replicate the (star with a line through it) ??????
Just thinking aloud here.....Ringing is illegal ! The term refering to one or more vehicles having the same identity.......or made to look that way.........I dont think this is the case with this bike because the V5 and engine number is available.
Any Policemen able to comment

Just use a Dymo gun & stick the number onto the headstock.
Or just stamp it on with a punch set, like we used to do for postcodes onto pushbikes. MOT guy doesn't care about any *'s
Some bikes don't have frame numbers anyway, my XT225 does have as it's a jap market one, but My mates US market one doesn't. Apparently not required for bikes under 250CC in some markets.
I'm sure back in the days, if you got a new frame as an insurance job, they would stamp the original number onto it, probably badly, off line & left to rust where the paint chipped off anyway.

That is very dodgy - US market bikes whether road of off road are federally mandated to have a 17 digit VIN - bike was probably stolen.

By your reckoning then all Harleys built before 1970 are stolen? None of them had frame numbers before then.
Bike is not stolen. I know the rules are different for some states and years, and maybe now frame numbers are required, but times change.
Either that or Worlds End imported 2 container loads of identically stolen bikes, all of which had had a perfect job done of grinding off the frame number, welding up, painting over etc. Seems unlikely.

Bikes over a certain age do not have to have the frame number visible, so you could build the bike and leave it blank, assuming you have a valid V5.

tis genuine, the boss at the powder coaters gave lee a cheque to buy the frame new as they messed up, and his engine and frame numbers did match, surprised he's selling it , must have been sat on that for at least 2 years

would have got them to pay to have the frame straghtned. IMHO not worth it at tha price he is asking, starting at £500 FFS. Its now up to £700, for nodought a new frame, but my point was its no way matching numbers.
