right,
the plan was to get the ypvs mot'd for this year , then strip her down for total rebuild next year..., spending quite a bit of cash on her so now here's my dilemma.
with the bike came a brand new set of cheng shins....... eeeuuerk i here you say. used to run avon roadrunners back in the day but this could save me over £100!
anyone had any experiences with the chinese beauties, or, am i asking for trouble by saving a few quid?
how bad can they be???
also, if anyone knows where i can get a middle of the road tyre to last this year that'd be cool.
cheers

You're probably gonna get people saying they're crap, get shot of them etc but I wonder how many have actually tried them I'd say try them first and form your own opinion. If you don't get on with them, stick them on ebay and buy a pair of BT45s.

I bunged one on the back of my RD400 to get the MOT done quick. Ran it for a year and had No problems with it all.
Suffered a lot of Pooh Poohing from other people but in the end it depends on how you wanna ride the bike. I don't ride it to the cutting edge limit.
95% of all riders out there don't run there tyres anywhere near there limits but they will say handling is has improved because it is fashionable to say so - leeming instinct!
I now have a couple of 70's Roadrunners on it because I like the original 70's look it gives the bike.
The front Roadrunner was picked up for a fiver at a jumble

Just chucked a set on an early 60's CB72. Chosen cos there's not much choice in 2.75 width tyres & they have the right period look.
So far no problems at all.
They may be made in Taiwan or wherever, but I bet they are better than what was available when these bikes were new. Got BT45's on my valves though.

IF the c906/7 model Chen tires ? then, they are are a passable, inexpensive substiute for BT 45's at 1/2 the price ie) $31. for 90/90/18
and IMO likely superior to Avons.. which I personally distrust with a passion.

its a false economy to use cheap tyres and why do you think that there is a price difference . allways use the best available and if you dont have the cash park the bike up untill you have.

Sorry, dont agree here. The price difference is maybe down to the countries where the tyres are made, wages paid etc. I expect there is a decent markup on tyres too from the big companies (mich, bridg, metz etc) so the smaller makers make a bit less cash? Also look at Maxxis, part of cheng shin or a product of whatever, does well in the supermotard world, very well infact.
Use whatever you can afford imo, if you dont really need a supersport tyre then dont buy it. Not everyone runs at ten tenths on the road

super motard spend most of the time sideways so its a bit like recomending a speedway tyre i have road raced for some time and have seen plenty of riders come to grief by going the budget tyre route due to lack of grip (not profit of the tyre manufacturer),either way its your life and you pay your money and you take your choice.

I remember when I started proddy racing (25 years ago!), All I could afford where cheap Yokohama tyres and everyone laughed.. It was all I could afford, because they where cheaper than Metzelers and Dunlops (the 2 popular choices for proddy racing at that time). I never had any issues and Yokahama are now recognised as very good tyres... I would use the chen's if you already have them, as mentioned earlier, perhaps be a bit cautious if you really start pushing the bike in corners, but for most riding they will be fine.. I prefer to use slightly better known brands, but that's just me, I don't see any issue with less well known brands as long as you ride accordingly.

I have raced too, but this isnt the point surely, the bike is for road use?

Avons are lethal in rain, only used cheng shins on my moped, they work fine there I guess, but I believe they are only meant for mopeds and small bikes like upto 125ccm's. I suppose if you never go fast its ok..
I would never ever use them on any of my bikes!!!!!
