Finally found time to clean up the R1-Z after its outing to the Ace Cafe Very Happy

As the sun was still out and the bike was almost out of fuel I got my gear on and went off towards the petrol station Wink

1 mile down the road the bike started to feel like it was running out of fuel ! you know the feeling ! I reached down and put it into reserve but there was no change ....

I stopped and realised the bike was only only running on one cylinder ?

Out came the tool kit and I put in a new set of plugs ( always carry a spare set ) ....

It still only ran on the left side .....

I changed over the HT leads and it still only ran on the left side !

Finally I pushed it the rest of the way to the petrol station and filled up ... just in case my reserve was'nt working ( beginning to loose the plot perhaps )

After filling the bike started but continued to run on the left side untill I tried openning the choke a little .....

It ran on both cylinders but only on 1/4 throttle ....

I managed to get home running with some choke ......

Once home I removed the plugs and both had a good spark .....

Is it pointing to fuel starvation ??

I'm thinking that the right carb might have its fuel filter blocked ?

Any other ideas ?

Thanks ...

Fred.

Thinking about it it did the same sort of thing as I got back to eddiesdads after the ride back from the ace in driving rain ... I thought it had gone into reserve .... but as I was so close I just limped onto his drive Confused

Sounds like wet air filters. Try removing the air filter and see if things improve.

Sounds more like a blocked main/idle jet to me. If opening the choke makes it run, then it would seem to be fuel starvation not air filter.. I would remove both carbs and give them a good clean and a blow through with an air line. Won't do any harm and might fix the problem.

If they have the same seperate filters on the carbs like the 3XV, sounds like the filter could be your problem ja.

Take the right exhaust pipe off Fred and look up inside the engine. Make sure your piston, rings and bore are okay.

If it runs better with the choke ON, then its running out of fuel somehow.

Fred, try draining the carbs 1st before removing exhausts and things, one of mine did exactly the same, drained the carbs and it was fine.

Sounds like it may be debris in the pilot jet from slurping the dregs of the tank? A quick clean of the carb certainly sounds like a logical first step in any case.

Thanks for all the replys folks Wink

Hopefully the '' Yella Fellas '' all sorted Cool

I removed the carbs and found small traces of crud in the float chamber and also the carb filters were the fuel line goe's in was full of crud ..... I also gave the carbs a good blast of air on any visible jets with the trusty foot pump Wink

Its all back together now and ran up for around 10 minuites on tick over with the odd blip on the throttle ....

I'll hopefully take it for a spin tomorrow and see what happens ....

Prob worth me looking into an inline filter or pet sealing the tank Rolling Eyes ...

Fred.
