Is there an easy way of fitting the rubbers ? anyone got a wonder tip or a method that makes it easier, having a nightmare getting mine back on
Do you fit the airbox side first or the carb ?, clamp on or off ? work from inside the airbox or what ?
Any help much appreciated, ta.
It's a 4LO by the way

Are they old or new?
New ones go on easy as they are nice & supple.
If they are old try warming them in hot water.

Armor All is a great rubber lube. My guess is you would seat carbs into airbox boots first then push back far enough to clear (somewhat) the manifolds, then work them on.

I do as Xen suggests and it has always been easy, the secret is to use new inlet rubbers as they are nice and supple!! Its a bastard with stiff old rubbers!! Let the comments start!!

Just done mine about 15 minutes ago. I have a new left one which goes in real easy but right side is a sod. I fit mine with clamps on them and slide them between carb and airbox as best you can trying to keep the back from falling into the airbox itself. Stick your fingers round the back and inside and offer the rubber over the carb. All you then have to do is stick a small part of the rubber in the airbox and the rest pops in easy. I then turn mine round to take out any creases and to ensure no leaks.
Tighten clamp and job done.

My method: remove oil tank, battery, air filter box (the latter, one bit at a time). Then you have all the room in the world to work on carbs without risking to damage the intake manifolds and jerk any of the carefully aligned carb elements. For me it is also the best way to align carbs with the lolly stick method. Pain in the arse though, particularly emptying the oil tank.
Cheers,

Here's a tip. Mine are 20 years old, I fitted mine by applying a little washing up liquid to the rim. Popped on a treat.

I do carb side first. Folding/peeling the larger end back on itself before I start to make more space, then a bit of gentle persausion with a screwdriver and they pop back onto the airbox. I completely unscrew the clips putting them back on afterwards, job done.
