This is bewildering, bike goes fine up to 3000-4000 then as you approach 5-6000 it starts to stutter and lose power occassionally you hear like a backfire sometimes!,changed plugs, plug caps, changed coil, changed cdi, stripped carbs twice cleaned out,set float to 21mm without gasket, took pipes of last week found neat petrol in the down pipes how did that get there?Seems worse as bike heats up too any ideas guy i'm at a loss

when that happened to me it was air seeping through the choke mechanism. Particularly prone to it is the cable type choke of the faired rds.

Cheers,

If it was working fine and running ok before then my money is on checking the crank has not twisted. I had the same symptoms..crank was out of whack as well as a blockage in the right carb and faulty needle valves. Contrary to what anyone tells you I measured my floats from the top face and I can tell you Ive been out on it now and it flies.

Beast.
