Am I correct in assuming that getting a master cylinder rebuild kit for an XJ550 will do me for my original 1981 RD350LC?

If ordering a rebuild kit you want the 4K0 (XJ650) kit, if ordering a complete master cylinder THEN you want the 4G0/XJ550 one as the 650 ones are no longer available.

I have my original RD350LC master cylinder and a XJ550 master cylinder. Both need to be rebuilt, so I'll need 2 different rebuild kits, correct.
I though the only difference between the XJ550 and the proper LC master cylinder was the cap. That led me to believe the inside plunger, seals, spring were the same. No? Thanks for your help. Glad to see someone else is up late.

Internally I can't say if the bits are the same as I've never compared them, from a visual standpoint they are the same on the outside, some bore etc - only things different are the casting numbers and if comparing to an early LC master cylinder then the windows.......4G0 is like the later (-02) 4K0 one with a flush type window. Since you need two anyway, just order one of each and be sure they are right - plus you can compare and report back.
