Hello,
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c258/BHoughton/poole20may005.jpg
A rare sight
Just repeating what I`ve put in events and meets.
Went down to Poole tonight with Andy who owns this smart RZV which is standard.
It`s the first time I`ve run my bike with another 500 and I must admit I was impressed with the way the Standard one went.
My bikes got the SS stage 3 tune and BDK powervale mod and to be truthfull there didn`t really seem to be any real performance difference
I`ll have to stop being lazy and repaint my Nikkons and put them back on to see what difference they make
It`s difficult sometimes on the road to guage performance, the bloke in front got the drop etc.
But we will go out again and do some sort of performance testing
and swap bikes to see the difference.
Anyway it `s good to have another 500 to go out with and compare.

The std ones in good nick are not slow Bill. Jimmy and myself have been miles and miles on std bikes and found only slight differences in performance. Bare in mind I'm talking about the so called rocket fast RG500 here against a stock RD500. I'll concede that in a flat out out drag race the RG is quicker...just...but add some bends and its no contest...The RG might go round them quicker...even be better handling...probably not...but exiting the corner the RD pisses any RG..thats cos they dont have any grunt at all....none...a CX500 would whoop an out of the power RG...no problem. Well the same applies to a tuned RD....a stocker will whoop its arse unless your right on it on the tuned one, and you know what that means......ooooh dear hope these BT45's can do this...

Ive only ridden one RD500, my own, wich is standard in all ways, and comparing with newer stuff its suprisingly fast, especially looking at the tech sheets comparing with newer dieselstuff... to be 90bhp and weighing what it does it goes very well... maybe my bike is a good one, dont know, but atleast it puts a lasting smile on my face everytime!

Hello,
I`ve been thinking about this and it might be worth checking the compression on mine, she`s done a fair few miles now since it seized on one piston and overall the motor hasn`t been touched for a long time.
Having Andy down the road has renewed my enthusiasm for the 500,
When the pound was really strong against the dollar I got some of "Ivan`s " needles and I`ve been meaning to set them up aswell.
Just got to make sometime to do it - instead of talking about it.

When you do the needles don't skip setting the floats like he says in the instructions. An your in for a suprise as to how clean a 500 can run from idle up.

Did Ivan ever make needles for the RG500 or was it fine as standard? I fitted Ivan needles to my R1 and liked the change but never thougth to ask about RG needles (Didin't think he touched 2 strokes!).

Went out on mine last week (not sure what state of tune it's in) but it still rips along. My mate was on an SV1000 and he said he couldn't believe how quick the RD500s still were!

90% of people who buy these super fast 1000's are straight line specialists only . I'm not saying I'm Micky Doohan , but come on, one of our sales guys has just bought a £13 000 1098 Ducati and he rides like a muppet. It's purely a show thing.
Still a lovely bike though.
