Having problems with my 350 lc running. Got the bike back on the road a couple of weeks ago and have done about 300 miles on it. Think before i owned the bike it had been stood a while and wasn't running when i bought it . I got the bike running, The problem was that the exciter had corroded and was not earthing to the stator. I cleaned this up and the bike run perfectly.
The problem i have got now is the bike starts up and runs perfectly while it is cold, Once i 've rode the bike for about 5 mile it start to miss fire and splutter. If i carry on riding it get progressively until the bike losers all power and wont pull at all. So limp the bike home and leave it till the next day and it starts up straight away again Rolling Eyes
Anyone any ideas what i should start looking at on the bike? Anyone had similar problems??
Also the bike seems to be blowing gearbox oil from the breather at the back of the engine. Any ideas why it is doing this??
Cheers Gillybobs

The right plug looks good to me . Just looks brown. Another thing i forgot to mention is the bike has strong smell. Maybe burnt oil Question Did wonder about the crank seals. Just wondered if these are the symptoms of blown cranks seals. Dont want to strip the bike to replace something thats ok and do work on it for nothing.

had similar problem to you when warm on a ypvs.

turned out seals were gone but looked ok when inspected..watch for "grooves " in l/h shaft though and on r/h spacer.
oil from back could be oil over fill but going with beasts theory seal pressurising gearbox up.
did you also check the stator was in good condition??
had a ypvs one that made bike splutter like mad then coil went o/c on the source coil...hope this helps.
in wakefield if you need a hand.
gaz

The stator and ignition coil all checked out ok as per the haynes manual. Might spend an hour going through them again though just to make sure. If there all ok think i ll have a look at the crank seals.

Might be fuel starvation. Once it starts playing up, try opening the fuel filler, let some air back in. Could be the breather blocked. Easier to try than an engine strip anyway, and would explain why it's OK again later.

Fuel starvation wont pressurise the engine.

Shocked

Well I ve had the bike back running spot on tonight. done about 30 miles with out a problem. Feel a bit of a plonker after finding the problem. After doing a few miles on the bike the other weekend i had a check round the bike. Was a bit worried about the little screw in the exciter coil coming loose so i loctited it in. Loctite must not conduct electricity very well as when checked the exciter coil again it had a high resistance . Anyway clean the coil all back up again and got rid of the loctite and the bike ran quite well again so fingers crossed thats it.
As for the oil at the back of the engine while id got the tank off noticed one of the petrol pipe had perished and was weeping petrol. Think this was running down the back of the engine and all the muck and crud was sticking to that. Have to see when I ve clean the bike up again the give it a run again. Very Happy
