I've now got 2 brand new chains that don't fit this 1982 RD350 LC (I'll take them back for a refund) and I have to conclude that the original owner had bought a beefier chain and sproket setup for this bike, but I'm curious why? Isn't it considered poor design strategy to increase your unsprung weight if you don't have to? The bike really only has an aftermarket exhaust tract and that's good for an extra 5-10hp (? I'm guessing ?) . . . or is my parts supply guy wrong.

Rich The RD250 and 350LC use a 530 chain as standard. Maybe it had been changed to a 520 (like the RZ) to save some weight?

Lighter chain and sprockets does give some extra hp's.. dragbikes uses the smallest chain possible ,capable of lasting 10 seconds....

Most racers put the 520 set up on its better an lc does not need a 530 chain its over kill. But it is standard so the shop did not sell you the wrong itoms .

Anyone know the measures for the chains? I had a beefy chain on at first but replaced it because it was sloppy as hell. (not even worn into the sprockets Rolling Eyes) Now i have a smaller chain that fits the sprockets but i think it looks like a moped chain compared to the old one! Laughing How wide are a 530 chain? Where do you measure it? Question

Interesting, but have you any idea of how wide this measure is on a 530 chain?

Overall width? Roller width + (4 * side plate thickness). For any 5xx series chain, that plate thickness should be constant. Mine measure between 1/16" and 3/32" ... likely 2mm (0.078"). so with a bit of clearance, I would say a 18mm for a non O-ringed 530 chain.
