i have a 1981 rd350 lc with ypvs fitted , up untill a dew days ago this bike was running very well and would pull cleanly in all gears upto 11000 revs and if you gave it a handfull in 1st or 2nd you would be off the back , but now there is a drop off in power the bike still starts hot or cold no problems but the engine response is off and nowhere as sharp as it used to be going to change plugs to see if this resolves the problem but any suggetions would be welcomed !! Confused

Hopefully your tach is overreading Cuz if you actually were using 11,000 rpms your crank would now be disassembling itself... and your bike would be performing poorly... as the first symptom of such.

Yup, it dont like anything above 10K, or the crank can twist, wich will result in odd problems like this, cause the timings will be off. It could lead to seizure on one side, and also different plug readings...

jmw Carbs needed a service then?

Wasn't the crank twisting then and timings going out then and the engine welding itself up inside then? Laughing
Good news but oh man, some of the abject detritus / cack handed replies you get here are unreal.

The tachos get worse the faster you spin the motor which is a little disconcerting considering where the pulse is taken from.
You can happily spin the LC to past 11K in real terms but obviously and naturally, faster rpm could contribute to an accellerated failure or deterioration of engine condition / performance.
If it's got some miles on it already then think before making it work harder.
