Hello boys and girls, I was very interested in the replies that came up from GH`s thread about the vibration problems he had with his valve.
So what are some of the symptoms of a twisted crank? MY 250 31L has had a cough between 4 & 5k in every gear ever since I can remember Crying or Very sad I put a brand new top end on it last year and have been swapping carbs and playing with float heights, air screws, needles etc but the problem is still there.
On inspection at the time of the new top end one piston did look as though it had attempted to nip up at some point.

I know I need a kick up the backside for leaving the crank but I am a great believer in learning by your mistakes blackeye

You dont need to be a mechanic to see how far that bad boy is out. In this particular crank the material on the webs was poor I believe and whilst I dont know the history of it I do know the previous owners never managed to sort it out.

I believe the fit must have been teardropped in some way because very occasionally it would 'synch' correctly and then slip but always lock itself in the position its in as per the pics..ie..f@cked..! The same crank was welded and after a few miles the weld snapped off and it slipped again..crank enters bin..!

jmw That's quite something, it really is.

Maybe it was an experiment at variable induction timing technology or even a stab at going for a big bang engine? - erm, no...

When you look at cranks that have gone south, normally it's not even visible and a dial gauge gives you 2 degrees - give of take.

Not sure what conclusions to draw but from it but hat's shagged allrite and even I wouldn't keep it for potential 'spares', and I hoard stuff.
