flat in fourth just about to grab fifth and the lc locked up------ clutch in and pulled up. it restarted so i took my chances and made for home got the top end of and both pistons have four near identical marks 2 each side of each piston. ive just put a set of kr1 pwks on the bike with ramair pods running 135 mains . did a couple of plug chops earlier and slightly rich i was going to jet down . almost sure its not oil related ive used these carbs on lc,s before with injectors . the barrels were rebored 400 miles ago could this be the problem .

A 4 corner seizure can sometimes be the result of tight tolerances or not warming the bike properly before caning it?

Yep, sounds like tight tolerances, that's very bad. Or do you have forged pistons in cylinders that are bored for those usual pistons like Mitaka? But it's strange that it havn't happened before, or have it?

Get some pics up if you can, a seizure from weak mixture will usually start at the piston crown.

sounds like you caned it to early...400 miles??? tbh not long enough common run ins are 500miles but could be tight tolerances/ incorrect oil settings / carbs or combo of the 3 ...seen this on a 250 lc today bloke who came to my shop asked what caused his and the crowns were black/brown but skated marks both sides of the guddy pin and inlet....turned out the pump wasnt set correctly!!!!.
sad news for you as new pistons and least a hone up on the bores...
hope you get it sorted mate...least you kept it going and didnt crash it.
post up your findings

the water flow at the 4 corners is not so go becourse the bolts go down there . It makes sence if you think about it . So often if you thrash to soon on an lc theys havent expanded the same as the rest and you get marks if you have had a rebore that is still a little tight then this would explane it . I allways put a bit of wet and dry down all 4 corners befor a rebuild a new bored set of barrels to help with this .

You will know why when you take the piston out. Some tips below but not cast in stone or anything. Used to have a link to a god site, but seems to have vanished...heres what I remember from it:-
Ally up intake side of barrel/piston - piston picked up by windows ...OIL problem.
Melted at the front or hole formed or forming....usually lean. On one piston only - posible air leak or if on right piston only, crank twist...?
Detonation/pre-ignition - very rare...normally because you cant change it. So only if massive head skimming and tuning gone on...or air leak.
KR1's and 135's are usually OK with an airbox...but without...I used 150's in my 500 with K&N conical filters...my guess would be you need 140's on a 350 with foam...maybe more. Depends how much oil you've got in your foam. Open carbs run much bigger jetting than airboxes.
I CANT BELIEVE WHAT NORBO JUST SAID.... Make your barrel square to avoid a 4-corner seize..hahahaha

Wot Nutty said, 4 corner seizure means to tight tolerances, or engine thrashed from cold...

I run 135 mains on my 350 with foam filters and Allspeeds, and it's just a tiny bit rich

Nope had running by 8:45 Friday night - from the sound it made when I kicked it over sounded like a piston had broke up or a rod snapped.
Turned out to be a holed piston (unusually RH pot). Probably due to the pattern base gasket leaking - although I'm not 100% sure. Got to do the timing (was set only 500miles ago with a dial guage) and change the gaskets on the other cylinder before I ring it's neck again
