You want to roll back the odometer? Bit like restamping now init? The answer is a big fat NO - that is unless you want to ruin it. I tried rolling one a junk one back just to see if you could it it pretty much destroys the pins inside the rollers. Some have said you can roll it back if you separate the metel drive pinion and I tired that as well on a junker just to see and I can tell you it's very difficult to uncrimp it from the frame work and I found even when you do get an end sway from the gears it still wont roll back freely so either live with the figure you have or get an NOS one and install it in your case. Or perhaps you could ask a local used car dealer for assistance in this matter - I'm guessing the ones with "headgear" will be your best bet.

Rolling the odo (should you want to do it Is laughably simple Virtually ALL odos (and that includes the ones on our Yamas) Have a ratchet on one side of each number wheel Simply ease the pressure on one side at by pulling away the other odo wheel(s) assembly, then just turn the wheel in question..it twill turn freely.. once disengaged... if it doesn't you have not yet diesngaged it from the adjacent wheel's ratchet enough.. be gentle.. brute force will break it.
Very easy to do.. Once.. you have learned the technique
You can do one wheel or each wheel sequentially... have fun. There is little chance of damaging anything iif you disengage the ratchets as you turn.. and the yama one is prolly the V easiest/lightest Odo I've ever had to do this to.. a beginner's odo
Oooh!! once in there .. Check the needle swing for absolutely free rotation (spin the bell to see)
If sluggish , then..you Must disassemble the tube bearing for the Speedo Needle and Bell.. Unfortunately one must remove the Needle (a genuine PITA to do) often the shaft gets bent and/or the orange plastic pointer thing gets ruined . Once off there is a small brass hex nut unscrew it then the tubular bearing It will (after 27 years ) be full of semi hardened oil goo which prevents the shaft from spining freely enough to register a semblance of accurate speed... If yr needle is sluggish. it's due to the age hardedned oil in that tube bearing. Disaasembly and refilling is the only way I've come accross to do this. Even penetrating oils have difficulties getting in there adequately

Obviously you ain't had a Yamaha speedo of this era apart as the ratchet mechanism is internal and no slack to be had between wheels, if you roll it back it WILL break.
Sluggish needles will be causes by kack build up between the drum attached to the needle shaft and the shroud surrounding it.

Wrong on this one... Obviuously You have no actual experience with Speedo innards let alone the LC ones..
Crub onna Bell . My Ass.
I Just Pulled apart and 'fixed' my 81 LC speedo on Sunday , as in 2 days ago! which explains the lengthy post... (it's more than fresh in memory.).because the damned thing had a 'sticking' Needle.
Had to reset the odo on the Spare to match the one I was replacing.
That part only took Seconds by the way. Also riuned one needle prying the Effing thing off.. Never.. seen needles as tight as these Yama ones... the little brass centre on it really has a grip on it's shaft.
Result was I got to repair 2!speedos .. lotsa 'Sumday Fun' with 26 yr old junk..
Once again: twiddling the Odo wheels is' Child's play.. as long as you understand how it's built/works.

well then post up some photos of your "childs play" so the rest can see it - I just looked at one last night and the wheels dont show any indication of "disengaging" as you put to enlighten the stoopid - unless its just talk. To unstick the needle all you had to do was wipe down that half round hub thingie.
