Hi
just started my freshly rebuilt motor up today only to find that when i added the water is was leaking from the front of the head gasket ? ? the head and barrels were all clean before fitting and the head seemed to be true. Im needing a head and base gasket set now so any advice on what the best set would be would be good.
thanks

You shouldn't need a base gasket if it's leaking at the head gasket. Everyone on here seems to recomend a genuine Yamaha head gasket (atleast they did when I asked a few months ago!). They are pricey but seem to be the best.

How many times does this question appear?
The only cost effective way of doing head gaskets is
TO BUY A COPPER ONE!!!!!!!!!
They don't cost anymore than OE ones AND you can use them more than once.
Had mine 4 years now and just about to use it again!
Only trouble is they don't come in 'green', unless you leaver them outside for 3 months.

I use the cheap pattern ones with a thin smear of silicon. Never had one leak yet! The money I saved over an original Yamaha head gasket was blown on wine, women and song....

Always fitted pattern except when I got a genuine one for free! Never use any compound, just made sure it's correctly torqued and re-torqued, and I've never had a problem

Hi, I got a pattern one of Norbo, they seem to be a bit thicker than some others I have had. It was fitted a couple of years ago and is still going strong.
Regards Rob
