finally getting to grips with my 350 valve. couple of questions, its got a pair of nice looking stainless spannies that are held on with springs, should these have sealer at the header/port joint, mine does have but on one side its come out which is allowing the pipe to move slightly. secondly, there is oil leaking from somewhere near the rear engine mounting, i think from near the little tower with a bolt in the top between the engine mount, this one needs a bit more looking at but any ideas. thanks chris......

Hi Chris. There is supposed to be movement, this is why the pipes are spring mounted. The engine is on rubber mounts so will move a bit during use due to vibration and chain torque. It's a good idea to use sealant around the joint to prevent oil leaks but if it's not leaking, I wouldn't worry too much. The small plastic elbow on the back of the engine is the gearbox breather. If there's oil leaking out of it, first thing to do is check the oil level in the box (use the filler/dipstick). If it's high, you may have a water pump seal or oil pump seal leaking into the box. Give the breather a clean. If the level is OK but it still blows after a ride, it could be a leaking crank seal or crankcase/gearbox joint pressurising the gearbox. So, check the level first and go from there.
