anyone going? ive never been to a race there before, only been there twice, MOR and a very wet trackday, so dont really remember what its like.
question is, whats it like for spectators? thinking of taking my 9 yo boy, are there plenty of good places to watch or are we better off watching it on the telly?

To be honest i wouldn't bother with race day.
Day of champions- Brill
Friday Practice-Very Good.
Saturday Practice-Excellent.
Race day-V.Poor.
The crowds on race day make it pathetic, you have to get there so early to get a decent view and then can't move all day and a long wait between races.
Done it a few times now and i wouldn't bother again.
Go to the practice days instead and watch Race Day on Telly.
Cheers Dave.

I allways have the very best seats and view, nice cream leather sofa, free refreshments and food, warm and cosy in bad weather, and can even rewind and watch again if I miss something.
Parkings free and no petrol needed, and no 3 hour wait to get out.
oh and dosnt cost a load to get in on race day.

Yep, Dave has it spot on, I go and have a look at the practise (usually on a Friday) and watch the rest on the box with Julian and Toby

thanks guys. not the news i was hoping for but exactly what i feared.
charlie cox and steve parrish for me, its like cliche bingo. they both come out with some great one liners. and then theres suzi perrys norks. watching her faun and flaunt herself all over JT every week is quite amusing too

If you decide to go, Gav, the infield at Craners is pretty good for viewing - if a little distant perhaps. It's aslo worth haviong a peak through the fence at the foot of the Dunlop Bridge (outfield) during warm up or something as it's about the closest you can get to the track, and the sound and sense of speed is phenominal close up. I've been to see the GP a few times over the years at Dionington and have never really thought it madly overcrowded myself, or even had any real difficulty getting in and out to be honest (going on a bike helps a lot here)I even had an absolutely excellent (vege)burger the last time I was there! (2006). You do get better coverage on the telly of course, but the atmosphere if its a nice day at teh track is pretty hard to beat really.
Having said that, with admission now costing almost as much as trackday, I'll be spending my meager groats on the latter rather than the former again this year and watching the GP on the telly. After all, it's usually more fun to have a go at doing it than watch others do it. Even if yer not as good at it
Cheers

just a thought...dont they have big screens so you can watch the whole race, like they do at brands?
i went to brands a few years back for WSB and the atmosphere was great, but the crowds and access were bad

Are you kidding!! put it on Sky + and go to Donington to feel the atmosphere, be part of the crowd and get home after a thoroughly good day out !! Unless it rains
The loop is a good palce to watch, you can just about see over to the other side of the circuit too, and if JT gets near the front you will hear the crowd before you see his Tech 3
Queues to get out are a bummer though.
Cheers
Rob

I used to go for the 4 days entertainment.....but NO MORE.
The last time I was there on race day we were sat in a queue to get out for over 4 hours.....not very good when you have a 2 year old with you.Half past 7 when we got to the perimeter of Donington Park where the main road is!!!!!!
No Marshalls to help in any way - they had all gone home!!!!!
Since then I have gone just for Day of Champions and practice and qualifying or just saturday qualifying.
I will be there on saturday this year for qualifying and then watch the races on Eurosport - flicking the channels when the adverts are on to BBC.
I have got seats on the start finish straight at an extra £10 each - previous years this was free!!!!!!
Even the race day prices have escallated.
Craner curves on the infield is a good view, but if you want to get closer I would say Foggy Esses down to Melbourne loop.Redgate can be good also.
