just fitting the crank back in today and noticed the the little locating dowel thing on the right side bearing has sheared off. Shocked

whats the usual way of removing the bearing from the crank to replace it?
can u just heat it? or do i need a puller. easy to get the new one on?.

dont need a press i hope.

End bearing I reckon? Try this ...

... you should be able to rent such a thing if you don't want to buy. I don't think heat will be necessary.

I wrap the new bearings in aluminum foil and heat in my toaster oven @ about 210F, 10 minuets bearing should slide on by hand. (use cotton gloves)

Socket would work depending on how much of an interference fit there is. Can you pick up some dry ice (-78°C) chips? Stick crank end in there for awhile and it should shrink the shaft enough where the room temperature bearing will slip right on. No alignment issues and no chance of any shaft/bearing damage.

you say its the right hand bearing, that only has a pip in it as its in the middle of the race, unlike the other 3 that have a hole drilled in as the race is thicker and a pin fitted.
only pic I have of one.

you can see the smaller cut out in the crank case compared to the ones with the pin fitted, if you change it your casses wont close properly.

common thing, thought mine had broke too last year. When you reasemble use bearing fit on it.

if the bearings are good, bearing fit should be ok.

I would get it rebuilt or buy a new crank. That bearing did lock up at one time.

Looking at pic #2
That bearing doesn't look good.
While its out, I would replace the two outside bearings for piece of mind.
