Hello all.
I'm not new to motorcycles (been riding for almost 25 years), and I'm not really new to 2 stroke streetbikes (I had an RD400 back when I was young and dumb), but I am new to rebuilding this particular bike.
I have a '72 DS7 that I acquired from a friend. He said it hadn't run in several years before he gave it to me, and I've had it in my shed for almost 4 years. Well projects have cleared, stars have aligned, and time has come available for me to get this bike back on the road.
This was her on the day I got her...

And here she is currently, after an hour and a half with a Brillo pad, some soapy water, and alot of elbow grease.

I know, not much difference. But the brightwork polished up alot better than I was expecting.

I started by cleaning the plugs and points and gapping them properly. I still have no spark though. I have a points/condenser set on order along with a service manual. But in the meantime, I have a few questions.

I tested for spark using all the different combinations, but just so I'll know for certain... Which position should the key be in for "run"? Centered, or all the way clockwise? Secondly, in the picture below, is the arrow pointing to the kill switch? If so, which position is for "run"? Pushed forward or rearward?

And lastly (for now atleast), in the pic below, am I missing the condenser? Or is it hiding somewhere else?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.
And I'm sure I'll have many more questions in the very near future Very Happy

Chris

I think the arrow is pointing at the high/low beam switch. Killswitch should be on the right side, with a three way switch. It should be centered for the bike to run.

Ignition should also be centered if I remember correct (mine has aftermarket ign switch, with only on or off, I think all the way is parking lights on and possibility to take the key out of the ignition).

Good luck!

The high beam switch is just to the left of the one the arrow is pointing at. It's marked HI-LO. The only marking the one in question has is a square box indented into the housing. When the switch is rearward, it covers the box. When it's forward, you can see the box. I'm guessing there was some sort of colored paint in the box, either red or green, but time has removed any color from it.
And there's nothing on the right side. The bike doesn't have electric start, so there's no starter button. Which is why I was guessing the kill switch was on the left.

Thanks Gerry, I actually already registered over there but I'm apparently having "cookie" issues and I can't log on the side right now.
