You can use 20W40 or 20W50, just use an oil that is intended for motorcycles otherwise you might have problems with the clutch (caused by friction modifiers in car oil).

You can run a 10W40, the 10 refers to the viscosity of the oil when hot, a 10W oil is runnier than a 20W so it will flow better, but you don't want the oil to get so runny that the parts in your engine can disperce the oil and make contact with each other (causing a seizure).
Living in the UK, (not known for getting really hot!!) you can run a 10W oil. I am surprised that you are having trouble finding a 20W50 oil as it's a common grade, but that ELF 10W40 will be fine.
If the engine has done a few miles, you might see the engine burn a bit more of the 10W40 oil than a 20W oil, so keep an eye on the oil level..

Thank you for the answers, I have another one for you!

How many litres and how to tell the level? The oil glass sight on the side seems to be full of oil all the time.

Thanks for your help.
