Hi,

I know that some of you are using a front end from GSXR, ZX6R, CBR, R6...

I'm intended to swap my current RGV fork by one of them to have hydraulic adjustments.

However, my concern is about the springs stiffness. The original RD is about 0,45 Kg/mm and the RGV one is 0,525 Kg/mm. Because I was feeling still a bit soft, I upgraded the springs up to about 0,7 Kg/mm and I think is quite appropriate.

Now my doubt is that a fork from a modern 600 is 0,85Kg/mm at least and I think it would be quite hard.

What do you think about it? Does any of you guys riden a RD with a modern 600 fork?

I look forward to read about your experiences :smt003

Cheers

Rich I have XJ600 divvy forks in my Yamagamma. I thought they may be a bit firm as the RG is a very light bike but they work surprisingly well. I am 18 stone though so tend to find some forks too soft Embarassed I'd say try it and see, you can always fiddle once you have ridden it and you have a better idea.

I've fiitted Emulator valves to my RZ forks..
Result is: low speed compression (bump absorption0 is way too soft as before and high speed compression is rock hard.. clearly theere is more emulator valve adjustment needed.. but there ain't a lot of adsjustment left.
Possibly new springs and a backing off of the valves would get a better compromise.
Problem is that the total cost of all this dicking around could have bought me a "good' pair of shocks.
For me that would mean something absolutely Not older than 2000 model year, if I had to do it again... although I still might buy some..IF... I can ever get my motor to power levels enough to warrant it.

my mate put fzr 600 forks on his rd, and yes they were way to stiff, bike was almost unridable on corners, very scary, you would need new less harder springs on the insides.

i once toured devon and cornwall 2up on a 600 perversion, with a weeks camping gear in the krausers it went into a violent slapper at first sight of the first corner...25mph and only 100 yards from my door. the GF cried all the way round the m25 Laughing

i wouldnt say its suspension is exactly modern sportsbike material......

Rich Well, they seem to work for me - smooth over bumps but don't bottom excessively when hard on the brakes. They ticked other boxes too - 41mm diameter (matched the yokes I was using), twin caliper 83mm mounts for 300mm discs, nice and short (almost identical to the original RG), nice looking front mudguard and 17mm diameter front spindle. They were also pretty cheap - think I paid about £50.

Anyway, that's my contribution so I'll say no more on the subject. Make yer own mind up Wink

Are you using USD RGV forks? They did make adjustable forks for the SP model.

Mark...
