Hello everyone.

I just acquired a 1973 RD 350 yesterday from a friend of mine and I had a few questions as to possibly where to start with the engine. The bike definitely needs some work and is going to need rewired, although I was hoping someone could give me some insight as to where to start with the engine. My dad seems to think that trying to get it running first and then rebuilding after that so I don't waste money on a rebuild kit for a motor that doesn't run. Or should I buy a rebuild kit and start by rebuilding the motor and going from there? I was wondering what everyone thought and if I were to rebuild it what kits do you guys normally use or recommend. I found some on spec II's website that seem pretty reasonably priced. I plan on keeping the motor stock as far has having it machined etc... I was hoping to just be able to bolt on some performance carbs and expansion chambers and pretty much stop at that. We noticed that the right cylinder didn't seem to have compression when we were kicking it over. Also if you guys had any suggestions as to where to find a wiring harness and the rest of the wiring for the bike so I can replace it.

i normally try to get them running first then strip them
but it's up to you ,does answer a lot of questions tho

you can pull the heads off and have a look down the bores quite easily
4 bolts a side, sounds like the piston might be holed
check for sparks before you strip it the electrics on old bikes usually present
most of your problems on a rebuild .
they are pretty simple things to work on tho and well worth the effort imho
