Hey, I am a huge 4cy (kz) kawasaki guy. I hope nobody hates me for that. I just found this site and am hoping learn some valuable information about my new found treasure. When looking around various farmyards in my South Dakota area, I stumbled upon a very small, interesting bike. The bike seemed to look very familiar. What caught my eye was the 2-stroke twin. I then noticed the number 350 on the side covers. I bought it that day for $100. I have not picked it up yet and I have been googling it trying to learn more about it. It seemed to look identical to the pictures of the rd 350's. Although in my research it says the the rd 350's were made in 73-75. This bike is a 1970. Is this correct or did they make an rd350 in 1970? Also, does this bike have potential to be fast/quick? The odometer reads 8,000 miles and it looks good all around. I know the kawasaki 2-stroke triples had huge potential, how do these compare?

A 1970 would be an R5.
If it is close to stock it would probably be worth more restored.
Otherwise how much money do you have to spend on it?

You might want to check these guys out:

It is very much stock. Tank is pretty beat up on each side from fork tubes hitting it, there is no petcock and rusty inside. Other than that it is completely unmolested. Would need to be stripped down, cleaned, and painted to be in great original condition. I have never been a real fan of a stock motorcycle, unless maybe in this case where it is worth something. In restored original condition what are the possible dollar amounts these can bring? BTW, I live in South Dakota and the vintage bike demand is pretty low.

Will most parts from the rd's work with the R5? Such as pistons, exhaust, etc.?
