i've just changed the exhaust gaskets on a 1985 rd350lc ypvs I've just bought because they were leaking. Everything was fine at first but after a few minutes idling the exhausts started to leak. It seems the exhaust vibration is damaging the gaskets even though the flanges are tight. Any ideas for cure would be welcome

Remove the pipes and look inside the groove in the flange - there is supposed to be a gasket of sorts in there but over time the come apart and/or get pulled out by owners. Without the gasket in there you can't get a good seal even when things are tight as there is a gap. There is no part number and it cannot be replaced - Yamaha fit them whilst they assembled the pipes, once welded together it is inpossible to fit one even if you had a spare. Some have used silicone or jammed various things in there...........I think someone said that soft copper wire works.

Thanks for that, didn't think I'd get a reply tonight.
How thick would this missing piece be, I wouldn't like to damage anthing.

Not sure of the thickness, take a look first and see what you have. If nothing use the wire and experiment till its right.
