I've been having some fun on the LC over the past few days, new tires and good weather= fun on the roads.
Anyway the clutch has developed a rattle whan sitting in neutral. This rattle only comes in when the enging is hot after a good run and there is no evidence of a rattle when starting up and idling cold.
Also there is no clutch drag/slip and selecting a gear is no problem, even when stopped, neutral is easy to select.
When idling hot in neutral and the rattle is there, if I pull in the clutch the rattle is gone.
I'm really hoping it's an oil viscosity problem and nothing else. I believe the current gear box oil is light possibly 10/30.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Dude i have no idea. It could be anything! The best is to rip it apart and inspect it.
If i would guess, i'd say a bearing maybe.
When the engine gets hot, the oil in the gearbox also gets hot so it's quite "watery" (lack of word) and will make everything sound a bit more.
Your clutch basket might be worn when i think about it. If it's alot of gap between the plates and the basket, then i guess it can start making noise. And when you pull the clutch in, it kind of stays in place rather then boggeling around in the basket. I guess..

Thanks for the replies lads. Maybe a clutch strip is the way.
Re; the carbs, I can't be certain they're balanced, what problems could unbalanced carbs cause? I'm lost on that one

Just a wild guess here (but no worse than the passenger grab rail guess ), but could it be as simple as your clutch lever adjustment having too much slop in it causing the clutch engagement components to rattle ? Does the rattling stop when you add just a little tiny bit of preasure to your clutch lever when in neutral and the engine warmed?

That does happen, exactly as you described, a little pressure and it's gone. But would that not happen on a cold engine??
The tension on the cable seems okay.
I'll have another go at it tomorrow.
Thanks for the replies lads

Dunno if you know it but don't make the push rod going tight against everything, it can melt in the end! It shall have some play so it doesn't build up friction heat..
I think you have to tension the push rod assembly as one part and then tensioning the cable separatly. If i remember it correct, which i might not do at all.
