Took clutch apart last night. Im thinking I need to find a new adjuster screw/lock nut. My adjuster screw looked very stripped and looked like some tried to make it into a robertson (square bit). Tried holding the lock nut with a wrench and turning the screw with a screw driver and the screw driver just spins in the screw. Was able to loosen the lock nut off the pressure plate but its stuck on the screw. Also the ball is between the 2 push rods right? Dont know if I took mine out as I dont remember a ball coming out. I will lean the bike over and see if it comes out of the shaft in the middle.

Also how deep do the grooves have to be in the clutch boss/basket before I need to file them down? I can see what looks like marks on the basket from where the friction plates were sitting but if I run my finger over it I dont really feel any grooves, but where the steel plates sit I could feel small grooves towards the back.

If you can feel them .. remove them.. carefully, as you don't want to make it worse with sloppy workmanship..

use a dremel with a cut-off disk to cut a slot in the screw. I can't count how many times i have had to do this on these old bikes. Rolling Eyes

Thanks guys, the dremel tool trick worked well Cool Filed off the grooves I could feel. Every finger had been polished where the plates sat but only a few actually had grooves in them.
