Hi guys, has anyone used or have any knowledge of Activ8 oil additive ?
My father-in-law has just bought one litre (£70), to use in his Rotax FR125 kart engine, as it's supposed to increase power, prolong engine life etc.
Personly I think he's been gang-raped (£70 per litre), just wondering if anyone knows anything about it ????

i put some im my 125 years ago and it blew up, but thats not saying much. Laughing the late great john robinson did a fantastic piece in Performance Bikes on oil additives years ago, the sieze test apparatus they have at many shows is apparently some distraction trick, as its not how oil works in engines, if i could find it for you i would, but i remember him saying it wasnt good.

SNAKE OIL, BUY YOUR SNAKE OIL HERE!

OK first question, do you think the oil manufacturers don't know about this stuff? Do you think there's some reason they don't add it themselves? Actually they do, but only to certain oils. Google "EP additives" and note at the bottom of the wikipedia page it states: Sulfur containing EP additives can cause corrosion problems in gears with parts made of bronze, brass and other copper alloys when high temperature environment is encountered.

Gear oils generally do contain an element of EP additives but it is a controlled element not a bottle bunged in, and it's controlled by the oil manufacturer not the snake oil seller for the reasons stated.

Pay more for additives than oil at your risk.
