New owner of a '81 LC 350. Its well worn but I was able to drive it the short distance home. Bike sat a while 3-4 weeks, now it won't start. After about 10 kicks, you smell gas and the plugs are wet. Have done some preliminary inspections, like the air passage is clear, I know the motor has some compression, I drove it home and it definately has gas. Dug a little deeper, when you kick it over I can see a spark on both plugs, might be weak but not sure. Checked coil primary resistance:@ .4 ohms/sec res @3.5kohms. Bike came with a spare motor& parts, so I swapped the coil(it had the same resistance specs). Couldn't find out how to verify the CDI unit, so swapped it out with the spare as well. Checked the Source coil res.-high speed was 5.4 ohms, low speed was 238 ohms. Pulsar coil res was 90.5 ohms.(checked out the specs on the spare motor and they matched the readings taken here). The stator coils measure about .8 ohms each winding. Other observations, the kill switch seems to kill the spark when kicking it over. I also checked the Black/white stripe wire, normally its grounded, unless the key is turned on, and the kill switch is in run position. The low speed source coil was the only thing that wasn't within spec, my book calls for 271 ohms +- 10% and I'm at 238 ohms-works out to 12%,and yet the spare engine's coils read indentical to mine. Seems like I'm running out of idea's here, hoping some one here can help.

simple things first, fuel spark and battery, the symptoms, solutions and prognosis you have descibed all seem systomatic of a simple solution, clean carbs, as suggested, fit new plugs, new battery, check static timing and go from there, start from the bottom up rather than the top down y'know.

Appreciate the comments, but if you have a LC, you know it doesn't need a battery to run. It ran on the old gas , but I have put in new gas. It started up just fine without a battery when I purchased the bike and drove it home. I have since installed a new battery anyways. The plugs are new out of the box to.

Did you drain the float bowls after you put in new gas? If there was water in the old gas, it will now be sitting in the float bowls and water is not known for it's combustion properties.. Just an idea.

Drain the carbs and fuel tank then replace the old fuel. Take out one of the plugs and pour a small amount of fresh petrol into the barrel. Replace the plug and kick it over. The bike should start if there is a spark present.
If it revs high then you may have an air leek somewhere. The carbs are joined by a rubber tube near to their base...this should be a snug fit. Then check that your rubber intake manifolds are nice and secure.

Worked on the bike a little more today. Drained the tank completely, filled with fresh gas. Took apart the carbs and cleaned out all the jets and passages, them blew compressed air through them, they weren't that bad , but now they are clean! Went to kick it over and same results, after about 5-10 kicks, not 1 catch. Pulled the plugs. and they are dripping wet. While they were drying stuck the old plugs onto the coils and kicked it over, see sparks on every kick. Could the timing somehow be off, ie firing at the wrong time ? Not sure how to check timing, but will look it up. I think I still have a dial gauge from my air cooled days. Any other suggestions ?
Thanks

sounds like its flooded to me
make sure the ignition is off and try kicking it a few times with the plugs out
then fit clean, dry plugs and try kicking it over with the throttle open to get some air in there

Dug out the old dial gauge, and after a little didling managed to verify the timing , its spot on 2.0 mm btdc. Someone suggested pouring a little gas in each barrel, but that kind of scares me if I put too much it might lock up? How about these quick start spays, are they safe to use with 2 strokes ? At this point I want to at least hear it sputter and try to start. As always looking for anything that might help.
Thanks

I think I have another set of carbs, can swap out the choke plunger from the other carbs and try it.
Thanks

Well it finally started. Spritzed some quick start in the barrels via the spark plug holes , put in new plugs and started kicking. It sputtered a little , which was more than I had in the past, so held the throttle open and kept kicking until it caught. Funny thing was, gas just poured out of the tailpipes (mostly 1 side), it must of dumped out 10-16 oz of gas on the floor. Wondering now if that had been my problem all along. I might have left the petcock in the run position for a couple of days after bringing the bike home. If the carb inlet seats were bad it could of flooded the crank and pipes and cause excessive exhaust restriction so no start ? Any other idea's out there ?
Thanks
